What are Voice & Fluency Disorders?

Voice disorders can be impairments in vocal quality (hoarse, strained, or breathy voice), vocal intensity (typically too quiet), or abnormal pitch.

We are certified in the Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD) program designed for people with Parkinson's disease and other neurological diseases.

Following an Ear Nose and Throat consultation (ENT), treatment is available for a variety of vocal fold pathologies such as vocal nodules, incomplete vocal fold closure, vocal cord paralysis, or dysphonia (hoarseness, breathiness, raspiness, etc).

Fluency disorders (frequently known as Stuttering) are interruptions in the flow of speech. Signs of a fluency disorder are repetitions of sounds, syllables, or words, prolongations of single sounds or blocks of airflow or voicing during speech. These may be accompanied by excessive tension, struggle behaviors, and speaking avoidance. Focus of treatment includes minimizing negative reactions to stuttering and difficulties communicating in various speaking situations.
